movies and tears

Kahapon, that was Sunday, dumaan ako sa Makati Cinema Square to buy guitar strings (we'll talk about music sa ibang kuwento) when I saw pirated DVDs being sold for only 30. kahit maliit lang ang suweldo ko at ang pagtitipid is a must, pumunta parin ako dun sa shop na yun at tumingin tingin (sa DVD at hindi sa sales lady-para sa mga readers na malilikot ang mind gaya ni Joey deLeon).

And right there and then I saw a copy of Land Before Time. "Oh my God" sabi ko. This movie made me cry when I was small (until now small parin ).

So I got a copy after hustling with the nice sales lady to sell it for 15 pesos ("tangina kang igorot ka!" sabi siguro nung saleslady) Buti nalang guwapo ako.

Tuwang tuwa ako kasi nakaisa nanaman ako. ("Peste, get outa here!" sabi siguro niya pagtalikod ko)

"Men, uwi kayo agad, may magandang movie tayo ngayon. Guaranteed tearjerker" and sabi ko-sa text (tipid nga e).

(If you're interested pumunta kayo sa Pier, they have an array of Panasonyas, Sonya, and other sikat na brands na wrong spelling and tatak-for a reasonable price)

This is it.

We ended up watching Homerun, a Singaporian adaptation of Iran's Children of Heaven. It made us cry.

flight 101

February 6 2003. My birthday and first flight ko sa boung 22 years ng buhay ko.
Especially pag
sa mga maraming beach. Oh I miss my beyahe days. Anyway, so yun nga ang first na plane ko. And it was my birthday. Mabait ang boss ko.

So andun na ako sa loob, oh cyet I've been smiling for 4 hours now. Pagpasencyahan nyo na, laking bundok kasi ako kaya this was really something sakin and relax, we'll talk about my childhood days later.

So yun the ignorant Igorot finally got into a plane and he just can't wipe that stupid grin off his face.

Ako: Eto na eto na eto na…..lilipad na Lord (in my mind siyempre. Hindi ako addict for Christ sakes)

Nung nasa taas na kami, lumapit yung stewardess sakin.

Stewardess: Water or juice?

Ako: "Ahm…(tumingin tingin muna ako sa paligid ko and secretly cheked if may money ako sa left pocket). Water only po."

taglish

Siguro nagtataka kayo kung bakit taglish ako magsulat. Well actually sa totoo lang, eto kasi uso ngayon e. Parang cellphone if you get my drift.

" Kris ikaw ba yan? Oh My God!! Ikaw nga. At nagsusulat ka narin? Diba bobo ka dati? Wow this is something!"

Nung highschool kasi ako, in the words of our prinsipal, "Kris, you had the lowest score in the just
concluded (adjusts her grandmother eyeglasses) common examinations, do you have problems?"

Principal: 67?! You got 67% in Filipino, whats the matter with you?
Ako: We don’t speak Pilipino at home, we are Igorots, we prefer English maam.

She was furious. Todo as in.

Nanginginig ako nung pauwi ako pero guess what happened? Habang palubog ang araw, dumidilim and kumakain kami, my beloved pader dear said:

Natutuwa ako na marunong ka lumaban but what happened kanina was not good. Next time be nice. (taglish din ang pader dear ko)

That’s it. And it changed me since then. Habang kumakain kami, I felt the pure love of a father.
Simple lang siya mag advice and he never laid his hands on us siblings. He's the coolest taglish dad in the
world.

kumpare

Kasi sa Baguio, ang tawag namin ay godfather or godmather (kasi nga sosyal ang ciyudad namin, and you might not bilivit, but
our flowers listen to classical music para maganda ang pagbloom nila- research on this if you think I'm making it up).

Mike: Pare!! (waves with his right hand and beer on his other hand)

(with the right hand waving and the left hand holding a cold bottle of beer) napoprocess sa utak mo ang "tagay muna tayo nak ng,antagal nating hindi nagkita a?" (kahit araw araw kaming nagiinuman).

That is true brothers and sisters, in my case.

laundry shop

What's funny about napapaplaundry is that minsan nagkakaroon ka ng freebees. Yes freebees. I swear this is paking true.

One time naman may panyo akong bonus. Maganda siya kaso may nakalagay, "from your love, Edward".

What do I do with these freebees? Iniipon ko. At the end of the year binabalik ko sa shop, when owners finally get reunited with their long lost underwares, socks and even comforters (imagine!), they start to believe in God kasi its Christmas time and they found something they thought they lost. Hehe. I'm bad.

three wheels

November 8 2002.

Pagdating ko sa Manila to take our oath (kasi nachambahan kong pumasa sa CPA exam), I was amazed by how may traysikel there were. I have never in my life saw three wheels na ganun karami. We’ll I grew in a city na sosyal. Hehe. Wala kasing three wheels sa Baguio. I think it's the only city with no tricycle and allows FX to run as taxi.

It's a feat kung panu yun natin nagagawa. I even saw a picture of a cow and 2 goats take a traysikel ride-both naka smile pa! We'll this is the Philippines. The land of unlimited possibilities and countless innovations.

At eto pa, you get to ride with the whole family of the driver! It's a bonus I think, kasi you get to know where your ten pesos fare will go.

So nawiwili nga ako sumakay sa tricycle. Mausok nga lang.

It's a three wheel limo. Mamimiss ko mga tricycle when I finally decide to go back to Baguio for good.
